Composition
Each 5 ml contains:
Levamisole (as hydrochloride) 40 mg
Properties and Mode of Action
LEVAMISOLE is an anthelmintic active against intestinal nematode worms and appears to act by paralyzing susceptible worms which are subsequently eliminated from the intestine.
Indications
LEVAMISOLE is especially effective in the treatment of Ascariasis, Ancylostomiasis and Necatoriasis.
LEVAMISOLE has shown to have some effect against Trichiuris trichiura,Strongyloides stercoralis and Trichostrongylus colubriformis.
Dosage and Administration
Ascariasis
Usual Adult Dose:
15 ml (120 mg) as a single dose.
A Dose Schedule Widely-used for Ascariasis and Hookworm Infections in both Adults and Children:
2.5 mg/kg as a single dose,repeated after 7 days if the hookworm infection is severe.
Precautions
LEVAMISOLE should not be administered to pregnant women unless potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Contra_indications
Advanced liver or kidney disease.
Pre-existing blood disorders.
Side effects
LEVAMISOLE is generally well-tolerated and side effects are usually limited to nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness or headache.
